Sewing 101

I browse Sewing@CraftGossip daily. It gives me so much inspiration and introduces me to so many talented crafters, quilters, bloggers.

Today I saw that Chris at 'PickUpSomeCreativity' will be hosting 'Sewing 101'. There'll be up to 10 guest bloggers between July 5 to July 6. I can't wait!

My first blouse

I'm so excited.

I bought a Cotton Friend magazine about 3 months or so back. It's in Japanese.. but there are lots of pictures in it. I figured, I may be able to piece it together some day.

awesome Jap magazine

Then for my birthday this year, darling husband bought me a sewing machine!.. Not just ANY sewing machine.. a Singer Confidence. I was so so so so happy .. I couldn't sleep that night without sewing something. So I sew a pouch.
Gift from darling hubs
But I digress..

The purpose of this post.. and I'm so excited

I made a blouse. Not just any blouse... a stretchy knit blouse with a cowl neck! .. and it's my first attempt!.. and it fits!

From Left:
1) Hanging on a hanger
2) Hanging on me ..
3) Hanging on my neck :)

I changed the pattern a bit, the original sleeve had a drawstring at the end. I didn't want that.. so I used a normal sleeve pattern instead.
The bottom of the blouse was originally just a hem. Instead I cut a big rectangle and made a band to finish.

I love the stretchy knit feel.. I love the fact that it fits me :D (Pattern was free-size.. I 'up-sized' it a little.. yes I'm of the Plus Size variety)

So what do you think?

Adventures in sewing

Hi,

Welcome.
This is a blog about my adventures in sewing.
My first encounter with a sewing machine was when I was 13 years old, and we had to sew a blouse for home economics. The fabric provided was a simple local cotton fabric in blue and white polka dots. The sewing machine I had to use was an old Singer model.

Long story short.. the blouse was nothing short of a disaster. In fact, I have no idea where it went after I scrapped through with a pass in my Home Ec.

Years passed.. I'm now a working mum of 2 hyperactive kiddoes (1yo and 3yo), and I'm suddenly bitten by the sewing bug.. I'm trying to sew things I never thought I could sew.

This blog will chronicle my attempts, and maybe even put up a thing or two for sale ;)

Thanks for stopping by.. do come back often.

Look forward to hearing from you in my comments section too.
